After several months of Zoom meetings, the SCIA board met in-person on Monday, June 15, with masks, in the front yard at the ambulance building. Business was conducted over the din of passing vehicles and with driveway rocks to keep reports from flying away, but it sure was nice to be back together. Those present include board members Andy Simkin, Dana Mandel, Guy Garnsey, Rebecca Davis, Paul Redmond, and Marie Eckhardt plus staff members Wendy Hoose, Jackie Dickinson and Hilary Karlick. Board members not shown include Paul Simkin, Gabe Jacobs and Karen Clark.

SCIA Named 2020 EMS Agency of the Year
Southern Cayuga Instant Aid is honored to have been selected as The Central New York Regional Emergency Medical Services Council “EMS Agency of the Year” for 2020. With the commitment of the SCIA leadership, providers, and staff, our vital rural agency remains strong and ready to serve. Recognition from CNY-REMS reaffirms the excellent work done by all at the agency. SCIA in turn acknowledges the invaluable moral and financial support that the community provides. Today, May 5, 2020 is Giving Tuesday, a day when people are encouraged to celebrate generosity either by giving financially or by simply doing a good deed for someone they care about. What To Do If You Are Sick

NYS Yellow Dot Program
Yellow Dot is a free program designed to help first responders provide life-saving medical attention during that first “golden hour” after a crash or other emergency. A Yellow Dot in the driver’s-side rear window of your vehicle will alert first responders that vital medical information is stored in the glove compartment.
The Sheriffs’ Association distributes free Yellow Dots to New Yorkers. Yellow Dots and forms are also available at the Southern Cayuga Ambulance building.
HOW YELLOW DOT WORKS
The Yellow Dot kit contains a personal information card and a Yellow Dot decal.
- Complete both sides of the personal information card as fully as possible, in pencil. Attach a recent photo of yourself and place it in a visible location in your car’s glove compartment.
- Complete one card for each person who regularly occupies the vehicle.
- Place the Yellow Dot decal on the rear driver’s side window to alert first responders to look in the glove compartment for your medical information.
- Update the card annually yourself or bring it to your annual medical check-up. If you sell your car, remove the Yellow Dot sticker.
USE YELLOW DOT AT HOME
A Yellow Dot kit can also be used to alert those who respond to an emergency in your home. Simply place a Yellow Dot decal on or beside your front door and place a completed card for each occupant in a clear plastic freezer bag and place in a visible location in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator.
Thank you to the NYS Sheriffs Association for this information. More information about their Public Safety Programs can be found at http://nysheriffs.org/public-safety-programs/.
